Experience Royal Takin Preserve

Getting There

  • Walking

    From the center of Punakha, head north towards the Punakha Dzong. Once you reach the Dzong, continue walking north along the main road. Follow the signs towards Wangdue Phodrang. After about 1.5 kilometers, you will see a fork in the road. Take the left path that goes uphill. This road will lead you to the Royal Takin Preserve. The entrance is marked, and it is approximately 1 kilometer from the fork.

  • Bicycle

    Rent a bicycle in Punakha and start from the Punakha Dzong. Cycle north along the main road towards Wangdue Phodrang. After about 1.5 kilometers, look for a fork in the road and take the left path that leads uphill. Continue cycling for another kilometer until you reach the entrance of the Royal Takin Preserve. It is advisable to wear a helmet and follow the local traffic rules.

  • Local Bus

    Take a local bus from the main bus terminal in Punakha heading towards Wangdue Phodrang. Inform the driver that you want to get off at the stop for the Royal Takin Preserve. The bus ride will take about 15-20 minutes. Once you arrive at the designated stop, follow the signs to the entrance of the preserve, which is about a 10-minute walk uphill.
