Car
From Sarpang, head east on the main road towards Gelephu. Continue for approximately 30 km until you reach the town of Gelephu. From Gelephu, take the road heading north towards Phobjikha Valley. Follow this road for about 45 km, passing through the scenic landscape of Bhutan. After reaching Phobjikha Valley, look for signs leading to Gangtey Monastery, which is located about 10 km from the valley entrance. The monastery is situated on a hilltop, so there will be a short uphill drive. Ensure to check for parking options near the monastery.
Public Transportation
From Sarpang, take a local bus heading to Gelephu. Buses typically run every hour and the fare is approximately 100 BTN. The journey will take around 1 hour. Once in Gelephu, you can catch another bus heading to Phobjikha Valley. This bus ride will cost around 150 BTN and take about 1.5 to 2 hours. Upon reaching Phobjikha Valley, you may need to hire a local taxi or arrange for a shared vehicle to take you the final 10 km to Gangtey Monastery, which may cost around 200 BTN.
Taxi
If you prefer a more direct route, you can hire a taxi from Sarpang. This will cost approximately 2500 BTN for a round trip to Gangtey Monastery. The driver will take you along the main roads to Gelephu and then north towards Phobjikha Valley. The journey will take around 1.5 to 2 hours each way. Make sure to negotiate the fare before beginning your journey and confirm the driver's willingness to wait for you while you explore the monastery.
