Car Rental
If you are renting a car, start from the center of Thimphu (e.g., Clock Tower). Drive towards the main highway heading north. Follow the signs for Sangaygang View Point. The drive takes about 20-30 minutes depending on traffic. You will pass by the National Memorial Chorten on your left and continue upwards. Keep an eye out for the signs marking the turnoff to Sangaygang. The road is well-paved, but be cautious as it can be steep in some areas.
Taxi
You can hire a taxi from anywhere in Thimphu. Simply tell the driver 'Sangaygang View Point' or show them the address (FJMF+8RW). The fare should be around 300-500 Ngultrum (Nu) depending on your starting point. The taxi will take you directly to the viewpoint, which is approximately 20-30 minutes away. Ensure to negotiate the fare in advance if you are not using a metered taxi.
Public Bus
While there is no direct bus to Sangaygang View Point, you can take a bus that heads towards the northern parts of Thimphu. Get off at the nearest stop to Sangaygang, which is typically near the base of the hill. From there, you can either walk (it’s about a 30-minute uphill walk) or hire a local taxi to take you to the viewpoint. Make sure to check the bus schedule as they may not run frequently.
Walking
If you are feeling adventurous and are already near the base of Sangaygang, you can hike up to the viewpoint. The trail is marked and offers a challenging yet rewarding experience. It will take approximately 30-45 minutes to reach the top, where you’ll be greeted with stunning views of Thimphu. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes and bring water.
