Walking
From central Wangdue Phodrang town, head east towards the Wangdue Phodrang Dzong. Once you reach the Dzong, take the path leading away from the river and towards the main road (Road to Thimphu). Continue walking on the main road for about 10-15 minutes until you reach the junction for the Thimphu Highway. Look for a sign directing you to Dochula Pass/Thimphu. Follow this road; it will lead you up the mountain. The trail is well-marked, and you will enjoy the scenic views along the way.
Bicycle
If you prefer cycling, rent a bicycle in Wangdue Phodrang. Start from the town center and follow the same route as if you were walking towards the Wangdue Phodrang Dzong. Once you reach the Dzong, take the road heading towards Thimphu. This route is approximately 23 kilometers and offers beautiful landscapes. Be cautious of the traffic as you ride along the main road, and remember to wear a helmet.
Bus
To reach Dochula Pass by bus, head to the nearest bus stop in Wangdue Phodrang, which is located near the town center. Look for a bus heading towards Thimphu. The bus ride to Dochula Pass will take about 30-40 minutes, depending on traffic. Inform the driver that you wish to get off at Dochula Pass, and they will let you know when you arrive. The bus will drop you off at the main viewpoint area, which is easily recognizable.
Hiking
For adventure seekers, consider hiking to Dochula Pass. Start from Wangdue Phodrang town and make your way to the base of the pass. The hike is steep but rewarding, taking approximately 2-3 hours to reach the top. Follow the well-trodden paths, and be sure to carry enough water and snacks.
