Zvornik Lake, also known as Zvorničko jezero, is a man-made reservoir stretching 25 kilometers upstream from the dam near Zvornik and Mali Zvornik. The lake was formed in 1954 after the construction of the Zvornik Hydroelectric Power Plant on the Drina River, which now serves as a border between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia. The lake's creation marked the first artificial reservoir on the Drina. Encompassing an area of 8.1 square kilometers, the lake varies in width from 0.3 to 3 kilometers and reaches a maximum depth of 39 meters, holding approximately 90 million cubic meters of water. Its shoreline features small beaches, weekend houses, cafes, and restaurants, making it ideal for various recreational activities. Zvornik Lake is a haven for water sports enthusiasts, offering opportunities for kayaking, canoeing, sailing, swimming, and fishing. The kayak and canoe club "Drina" provides rentals and tours, with options for boat tours and speedboat rides. Anglers can enjoy fishing for various species, including grass carp, catfish, barbel, asp, huchen, and bream, with daily, weekly, and annual fishing permits available. The lake is also known for its large wels catfish, with legends of gigantic specimens inhabiting its depths. Divers have explored the murky waters in search of these elusive creatures. In addition to water activities, the surrounding area offers hiking trails on Mount Udrč and Grkinja, allowing visitors to explore the natural landscape. The "Somovijada" event, a traditional tournament in fishing for Drina catfish, takes place in July and August.
