Rooiputs Campsite 1: A Wilderness Escape

Rooiputs Campsite 1 offers an authentic and immersive bush camping experience on the Botswana side of the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park. Located approximately 20 kilometers north of the Twee Rivieren/Two Rivers entrance gate, this campsite is nestled among the iconic red sand dunes and camel thorn trees that define the Kalahari landscape. The campsite is unfenced, allowing wildlife to move freely through the area. Lion sightings are not uncommon, and visitors should be vigilant, especially after dark. Jackals, hyenas, and various other creatures also frequent the area. Each of the six campsites at Rooiputs are arranged to provide a sense of privacy and seclusion. Campsite 1 features a large tree for shade and is located about 30 meters from the shared shower shelter and pit toilet. The ablution facilities are basic, consisting of a pit toilet and an outdoor shower shelter, shared between two campsites. Water availability can be unreliable, so it's essential to bring your own. There are no trash cans; campers are responsible for removing their own waste. The nearest fuel and supplies are available at the Twee Rivieren camp. Rooiputs provides a unique opportunity to connect with the African wilderness in its rawest form.
