Book your stay well in advance, especially during peak season (May to August), to secure your preferred chalet and activities.
Pack layers of clothing as temperatures can fluctuate dramatically between day and night, especially during the winter months.

Be aware that the water can be slightly salty, so it's advisable to drink bottled water, which is readily available.
A 4x4 vehicle is recommended if you plan to self-drive within the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park.

Getting There

Self-Drive

From the Two Rivers entrance gate, proceed north along the Nossob River Valley for approximately 25 km on the main gravel road. The route is generally well-maintained but can be sandy in places, requiring a 4x4 vehicle for optimal safety. Look for the Rooiputs Lodge sign and turn off onto the private sandy track for the final 1 km approach to the lodge. Park entry fees are approximately BWP 190 per adult per day, plus BWP 75 per vehicle. Ensure you have sufficient fuel and supplies, as facilities within the park are limited.
Fly-in Transfer

Guests can arrange to be met at the Two Rivers airstrip for a transfer to Rooiputs Lodge. The lodge typically provides this transfer service, which is included in fully inclusive rates. Confirm the transfer cost and schedule directly with the lodge when booking. The drive from the airstrip to the lodge is approximately 30 minutes, offering an immediate introduction to the Kalahari landscape. Park entry fees are typically included in the lodge package.

Rooiputs Lodge, part of the Ta Shebube group, is a stunning retreat located on the Botswana side of the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, approximately 25 km north of Two Rivers. The lodge's name, meaning 'red well' in Afrikaans, reflects the area's characteristic red sand dunes and the vital water source it provides for the local wildlife. The lodge is strategically positioned on a mature, vegetated red sand dune, offering panoramic views of the acacia savannah and grassy plains. A nearby waterhole attracts a variety of animals, including the majestic black-maned Kalahari lions, making it a prime location for wildlife enthusiasts and photographers. Rooiputs boasts eleven chalets, including a family unit and a honeymoon suite, all constructed with a blend of wood, thatch, canvas, and glass. Each chalet features a private wooden deck, en-suite bathroom, and an outdoor shower, providing guests with comfort and privacy while immersing them in the natural surroundings. The main lodge area includes a dining room, bar, lounge, and reading area, all designed to reflect the textures and colors of the African desert. Activities at Rooiputs focus on experiencing the Kalahari's unique ecosystem and wildlife. Game drives, both during the day and at sunset, offer opportunities to spot gemsbok, wildebeest, springbok, and various predators. Guided nature walks and stargazing sessions are also available, allowing guests to learn about the area's flora, fauna, and celestial wonders.
