Getting There

Driving

The most common approach to Rooiputs Lodge is by vehicle from Upington, South Africa. Drive approximately 250km north on the R360 to the Twee Rivieren border post. After clearing customs and immigration, continue approximately 25km north along the Nossob River Valley on the park's main road. Look for the Rooiputs Lodge sign on the left, then turn right and immediately left onto a sandy road. Follow the signs for a few hundred meters, then turn right again. A 4x4 vehicle is recommended for the final kilometer of sandy track leading to the lodge. Park entrance fees are approximately P190 per adult per day for foreign nationals, plus P75 per vehicle. Visitors are encouraged to have Pula (BWP) in cash available to pay for the daily entrance fees at the game reserve.

Nestled within the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park on the Botswana side, Rooiputs Lodge offers an unparalleled experience of the Kalahari Desert. Situated 25 kilometers north of Twee Rivieren, the lodge is strategically perched atop a vegetated red sand dune, providing panoramic views of the acacia savannah and grassy plains. This prime location makes it a haven for wildlife enthusiasts, with lions frequently visiting the adjacent waterhole. The lodge features nine chalets, one family unit, and a luxury desert suite, all constructed with a blend of wood, thatch, canvas, and glass. Each chalet is set on an expansive wooden deck, offering privacy and stunning views. Inside, guests will find a sleeping area with double or twin beds, a sitting area, and an en-suite bathroom with an outside shower. The desert suite boasts an outdoor bath for cooling down while enjoying the scenery. The main lodge building houses a spacious lounge, a bar, a comfortable dining room, and a reading area, all decorated with furnishings that reflect the rich ethnic textures of Southern Africa. Rooiputs is committed to low-density tourism, ensuring a tranquil and intimate experience for all guests. Game viewing is a highlight, with opportunities to spot black-maned lions, leopards, cheetahs, and various antelope species. The lodge offers exclusive game drives and sundowner experiences within its private concession area. The Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park itself is a vast conservation area shared between South Africa and Botswana, known for its red sand dunes, diverse wildlife, and exceptional photographic opportunities.
