Discover more about Urikaruus

Nestled in the heart of the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, Urikaruus Wilderness Camp provides a unique and intimate encounter with the African wilderness. Situated on the banks of the Auob River, about 72 km north of Twee Rivieren, the camp consists of four elevated riverside cabins built on stilts, offering panoramic views of the surrounding landscape and a nearby waterhole. Urikaruus is renowned for its exceptional wildlife viewing opportunities. The unfenced nature of the camp allows animals to roam freely, creating thrilling and often unexpected encounters. Guests can observe a variety of species, including gemsbok, springbok, wildebeest, and the iconic black-maned Kalahari lions, directly from their cabins. The waterhole attracts a constant procession of animals, providing excellent photographic opportunities day and night. The camp itself is designed for self-sufficiency, with each cabin featuring two single beds, an en-suite bathroom, and a fully equipped kitchen with a gas fridge, freezer, and stove. Solar power provides lighting, while gas heaters ensure hot water. Each cabin also has a private deck with braai (barbecue) facilities, perfect for enjoying the tranquil evenings. Note that guests are required to bring their own drinking water and firewood. Urikaruus offers a true escape from the modern world, with no conventional plugs or cellphone reception. The camp is staffed by a tourism supervisor who is on duty at all times to ensure the safety and comfort of guests. Due to its popularity and limited capacity (only 10 people), booking well in advance is essential.
