The Una Biological Reserve, established on December 10, 1980, is a protected area spanning 18,715 hectares (46,250 acres) within the Atlantic Forest biome in the municipality of Una, Bahia, Brazil. The reserve is a crucial part of the Central Atlantic Forest Ecological Corridor, created in 2002. This region is characterized by a hot and humid climate, with annual rainfall exceeding 1,800 millimeters (71 inches), and temperatures ranging from 19 to 28 °C (66 to 82 °F), averaging 24 °C (75 °F). The terrain features isolated plateaus, generally between 200 to 300 meters (660 to 980 ft) high, within a flat coastal plain. The reserve aims to preserve the biota and their natural attributes without direct human interference. It protects several endangered species, including three endemic primates: the golden lion tamarin (Leontopithecus chrysomelas), the black-tufted marmoset, and the golden-bellied capuchin. Other protected species include the maned sloth (Bradypus torquatus), giant anteater (Myrmecophaga tridactyla) and numerous bird species. The reserve's diverse flora is representative of the Atlantic Forest biome, with a high number of endemic plant species.
