Overview
The entrance to Chapada dos Veadeiros National Park, located near the village of São Jorge in the state of Goiás, is the gateway to a remarkable natural sanctuary. This UNESCO World Heritage site protects 650 square kilometers of high-altitude Cerrado, a unique savanna ecosystem renowned for its biodiversity. The park was established in 1961 and recognized by UNESCO in 2001, preserving a landscape of ancient plateaus, crystalline rock formations, stunning waterfalls and diverse flora and fauna.Visitors to the park can explore several well-marked trails, each offering a different perspective on the region's natural beauty. The Saltos e Corredeiras trail and the Cânions e Cariocas trail are two principal routes, showcasing the park's high waterfalls, raging canyons, and natural swimming pools. The park is home to various species, including the pampa deer, jaguar, and toucan. The park's unique geological formations feature quartz crystal, which, according to NASA, makes the area one of the brightest points on Earth when viewed from space.The park's trails are open daily, and it's recommended to arrive early to avoid crowds and the midday heat.
