Car

From the center of Chapada dos Guimarães, head south on Avenida 31 de Março until you reach the intersection with MT-251. Turn left onto MT-251 and continue for approximately 15 km. Look for signs for 'Cachoeira da Prainha' and turn right onto a dirt road. Drive carefully for about 3 km to reach the parking area near the waterfall. Parking fee approximately R$10.

This gentle cascade is part of the popular Circuito das Cachoeiras (Waterfalls Circuit), a collection of six waterfalls formed by the Independence Stream. What sets Cachoeira da Prainha apart is its accessibility and calm atmosphere. The waterfall is shallow, creating a safe and inviting natural pool perfect for families and casual swimmers. The surrounding landscape showcases the beauty of the cerrado, Brazil's vast savanna, with its unique vegetation and rock formations. The Waterfalls Circuit trail is approximately 8 km (round trip) and is considered a relatively easy hike, making it suitable for a wide range of visitors. Along the trail, you'll encounter other stunning waterfalls, including Cachoeira do Pulo, Cachoeira do Degrau, and Cachoeira das Andorinhas, each offering its own charm. The circuit also features natural swimming pools between Cachoeira da Prainha and Cachoeira das Andorinhas. Note that Cachoeira da Independência is the only waterfall in the circuit where swimming is not allowed. Visitors can also explore the Casa de Pedra (Stone House), a sandstone cave that is said to have once sheltered early inhabitants.
