Located in the Centro district, its history dates back to the 19th century when it served as a training ground for colonial and imperial troops. Initially called Campo D'Amélia in 1830 to honor Empress Amélia, the square has also been known as Praça do Senador Carreira and Praça da Via Férrea.The construction of the Baturité railway in 1871 transformed the area, leading to its popular name, Praça da Estação (Station Square). The central railway station, inaugurated in 1873, further solidified the square's importance as a transportation hub. The current station building, constructed in a neoclassical style between 1879 and 1880, stands on the site of the former São Casimiro Cemetery, with labor provided by those displaced by the great drought of 1877.Today, Praça da Estação is a bustling public space where locals and tourists gather. The square is surrounded by colonial buildings and local shops, offering a glimpse into Fortaleza's architectural heritage.
