Conceived by Antônio de Lacerda, it was initially called the Elevador da Conceição. This vital link between the upper and lower parts of the city addresses the challenge posed by a significant geological fault.Originally operating with a hydraulic system, the elevator transitioned to electricity in 1906. In 1930, it underwent renovations, adopting an Art Deco style that remains its signature. Today, the Elevador Lacerda has four lifts that can carry 27 passengers each, ascending 72 meters in about 30 seconds.More than just a mode of transportation, the Elevador Lacerda offers a unique cultural experience. From the top, visitors can enjoy panoramic views of the bay, the Mercado Modelo, and Forte de São Marcelo.
