Memorial JK: A Tribute to Brasília's Founder

The Memorial JK, located on the Monumental Axis in Brasília, is a striking tribute to Juscelino Kubitschek (JK), the president of Brazil who envisioned and built the nation's capital. Designed by the renowned architect Oscar Niemeyer, the memorial serves as a mausoleum, museum, and cultural center, celebrating Kubitschek's life, work, and democratic ideals.The building itself is a modernist masterpiece, featuring a truncated pyramid shape covered in white marble and a concrete dome. A 28-meter-high pedestal supports a statue of Kubitschek by Honório Peçanha. Inside, visitors can explore exhibits showcasing Kubitschek's personal belongings, photographs, and documents detailing his contributions to Brazil's modernization and the construction of Brasília. Highlights include a reproduction of Kubitschek's personal library, his presidential sash, and the clothes he wore at his inauguration. The interior also features artwork by Athos Bulcão and Marianne Peretti.The memorial also houses Kubitschek's tomb, located beneath a stained-glass skylight. The surrounding gardens, designed by Burle Marx, provide a serene space for reflection.
