In the early 19th century, Silva Souto established a successful apothecary that even served members of the Brazilian royal family.In the 1920s, Edmundo Bittencourt, the owner of Correio da Manhã Newspaper, acquired the property and began constructing the neocolonial houses that define the square today. Some houses were built using salvaged materials from demolished colonial-era buildings, adding to the square's unique character. During its golden age, Largo do Boticário became a gathering place for Brazilian society figures and international celebrities.Today, Largo do Boticário provides a tranquil escape with its lush Atlantic Forest vegetation and the gentle sound of the Carioca River.
