Marco Zero Square, officially known as Praça Barão do Rio Branco, is the historical heart of Recife, marking the city's founding point in 1537. This vibrant square, located in the Recife Antigo (Old Recife) district, is where distances to all other locations in Pernambuco are measured. The square is surrounded by beautifully renovated historical buildings, including old warehouses transformed into restaurants and shops. A prominent feature is the large compass rose designed by Cícero Dias, embedded in the square. A red milestone donated by the Automobile Clube marks the zero kilometer.
