Centro Cultural Cais do Sertão: A Tribute to Northeastern Brazil

Located on Recife's waterfront, the Centro Cultural Cais do Sertão is dedicated to preserving and celebrating the culture of the Sertão, the arid backlands of Northeastern Brazil. The museum pays homage to Luiz Gonzaga, the 'King of Baião,' whose music captured the essence of Sertão life.The museum's architecture blends modern design with traditional elements, creating a welcoming space for visitors. Inside, interactive exhibits and multimedia presentations immerse visitors in the history, music, and art of the Sertão people. The museum is divided into seven thematic areas, exploring different facets of Sertão culture, including its customs, religion, creativity, and the relationship between its people and the land. Visitors can explore exhibits showcasing the daily life, social aspects, and economic activities of the Sertão. The museum also hosts live performances and workshops, offering deeper engagement with local artists and their crafts.Opened in 2014, the Cais do Sertão is housed in a renovated warehouse in Recife's old port district. A 'juazeiro' tree, transplanted from its natural habitat, welcomes visitors at the entrance. The museum's design incorporates elements of both the coast and the Sertão, symbolizing the meeting of these two worlds.
