During World War I, the park was part of an industrial expansion program focused on producing fabrics and sweets. It also played a role in early experiments with alcohol as fuel for engines. Although it once housed a zoo, it was closed in 2010. Today, Horto do Fonseca is a popular gathering place, offering a blend of natural beauty, recreational facilities, and community engagement.
