Largo das Baianas: A Taste of Bahia
Experience the heart of Salvador's Afro-Brazilian culture at Largo das Baianas, a lively promenade filled with food, music, and stunning ocean views.
Largo das Baianas is more than just a scenic spot; it's a place to connect with the local community. Located in the Amaralina neighborhood, this vibrant open space captures the essence of Salvador, a city pulsating with Afro-Brazilian culture and history. The promenade serves as a lively hub where locals and tourists come together to experience the rhythm of daily life. Visitors are greeted by a stunning backdrop of the coastline, with the serene waters of the Atlantic Ocean lapping gently at the shore, making it an ideal spot for leisurely strolls, morning jogs, or simply soaking in the sun. As you walk along the promenade, you'll encounter numerous food stalls and local vendors offering an array of traditional Bahian dishes. From mouthwatering acarajé to refreshing cocada, the culinary offerings here are a feast for the senses. Street performers often showcase their talents, adding a festive atmosphere that draws crowds and encourages spontaneous dancing. Largo das Baianas is one of Salvador's most famous acarajé points. In honor of the baianas de acarajé, a sculpture that symbolizes the profession was installed. The work, produced by the artist Bel Borba, is a beautiful Baiana de acarajé. The model for the sculpture is the Baiana de acarajé Cida de Nanã who is the great-granddaughter of Mãe Senhora (1890-1967), the third ialorixá in the history of Ilê Axé Opô Afonjá.
