Joventino Silva City Park, popularly known as Parque da Cidade, is a cherished green space located in the Pituba neighborhood of Salvador, Bahia. Bordered by the neighborhoods of Santa Cruz and Itaigara, the park provides a welcome escape from the city's hustle and bustle. Created in 1973 and revitalized in 2001 and again in 2014, the park has reclaimed its status as a go-to spot for leisure, culture, sport, and connection with nature. The park encompasses 72 hectares (approximately 1.4 million square meters) and preserves a significant remnant of the Atlantic Forest and sandbank ecosystem. This unique environment allows visitors to see diverse ornamental and fruit species, marking the transition from the Atlantic Forest to dune vegetation. The park's diverse flora includes ipê-roxo, pau-paraíba, oiti, sucupira, coconut trees, oil palms, jackfruit trees, mango trees, sapodilla trees, bromeliads and orchids. The park is also home to various animals, including mammals like monkeys and opossums, birds, reptiles, and amphibians. Almost 4 kilometers of winding paths invite exploration, while the park's lively amphitheater regularly pulses with the sounds of local and visiting bands, theatrical performances, and artistic showcases. Pau-Brasil Square hosts events like the Organic Food Market, Antique Fair, and artisan markets. Families can enjoy spacious lawns, playgrounds, trampolines and inflatable play areas. Adults can participate in yoga sessions, stretching exercises, and fitness activities led by instructors throughout the park. The Colabore Municipal Innovation Center, Salvador's first public coworking space, is located near the parking lot. It is made of 16 repurposed shipping containers and is designed for micro-businesses, independent entrepreneurs and startups. The Municipal Guard and Military Police patrol the park 24 hours a day.
