Praça Vinicius de Morais is a tribute to the celebrated Brazilian poet and composer Vinicius de Moraes, who called Itapuã home for several years. Inaugurated on October 19, 2003, the year he would have turned 90, the square is a cultural landmark and a popular spot for locals and tourists alike. The square's centerpiece is a life-size bronze sculpture of Vinicius de Moraes, created by Bahian artist Juarez Paraíso. The statue includes an empty chair next to the poet, inviting visitors to sit and capture a memorable photo. Surrounding the sculpture are ten totems, each displaying engravings of de Moraes' famous poems and song lyrics. Vinicius de Moraes lived in Itapuã in the early 1970s with his wife, the Bahian actress Gessy Gesse. He composed some of his most memorable songs about Bahia during this time, often collaborating with Toquinho. The house where Vinicius lived, designed by his friends Jamison Pedra and Sílvio Robatto, still stands near the square and now operates as a hotel.
