The Mother Stella De Ochosi Monument stands as a cultural icon in the vibrant district of Itapuã, Salvador. It is dedicated to Mãe Stella de Oxóssi (Maria Stella de Azevedo Santos), a world-renowned Candomblé priestess. Mãe Stella was the fifth Ialorixá (leading priestess) of Ilê Axé Opô Afonjá, a significant Candomblé temple in Salvador. She was known for promoting a version of Candomblé that was more faithful to its African roots. The monument complex features a large statue of Oxóssi, the hunter and one of the main orishas (spirits) in Candomblé, who was considered Stella's special protector.
