The monument celebrates the entry of the Brazilian army into Salvador, marking a decisive victory in the struggle for independence. Located in the historic Campo Grande square in the Canela neighborhood, the monument reaches a height of 25.86 meters and is comprised of a Carrara marble pedestal and an elegant bronze column. Atop the column stands a 4.1-meter figure of a Caboclo, an indigenous Brazilian, armed with a bow and arrow, symbolizing the Brazilian people's triumph over Portuguese tyranny, represented by a dragon. The monument also features sculptures representing Bahia and Catharina Paraguaçu, with the motto "Independência ou Morte" (Independence or Death). The monument's neoclassical design was crafted in Italy by Carlo Nicoliy Manfredi and his collaborators. The sculptures, candelabras and mosaics were all produced in Italy and shipped to Salvador.
