Discover more about Banco de São Paulo

The Banco de São Paulo, located on Praça Antônio Prado, is a striking example of Art Deco architecture in São Paulo. Constructed from 1935 to 1938, the building served as the headquarters for the Banco de São Paulo, founded by the Almeida Prado family. Architect Álvaro de Arruda Botelho designed the two interconnected blocks, incorporating geometric designs, ironwork, marble, and mosaic flooring, elements that define the Art Deco style. For a time, the building was the tallest in South America, holding the title from 1947 to 1960. In 2003, the Council for the Defense of Historical, Archaeological, Artistic and Tourist Heritage (CONDEPHAAT) officially listed it as a monument, recognizing its architectural and historical importance. Today, the building is home to the State Secretariat of Sports, Leisure and Youth of the State of São Paulo. Visitors can admire the building's exterior and explore the beautifully decorated lobby, which features ceramic pastilles, granite tables adorned with crystals, and hardwood finishes. Praça Antônio Prado, where the building is located, also adds to the experience, with its historical surroundings and vibrant atmosphere.
