Getting There

• Car

  If you are traveling by car, start from the center of Paraty. Head south on Avenida Octávio Gama until you reach the intersection with BR-101. Turn left onto BR-101, and continue for approximately 15 kilometers. Look for the sign for Tarituba, where you will turn right onto the road leading into the small coastal village. Follow the signs for Tarituba, which should take you about another 10 kilometers. Once in Tarituba, park your vehicle in a safe area near the beach. From here, you will need to hike to Cachoeira do Arataquara, which is approximately a 1.5-hour trek through the lush forest.

• Public Transportation

  To reach Cachoeira do Arataquara using public transportation, take a bus from the Paraty bus terminal to Tarituba. Buses operate regularly, and the journey takes about 30-40 minutes. Once you arrive in Tarituba, you will need to walk to the hiking trailhead. Ask locals for directions or look for signs leading to the waterfall. The hike from Tarituba to Cachoeira do Arataquara is around 1.5 hours, so wear comfortable shoes and bring water for the trek.

• Hiking

  Once you arrive in Tarituba and have parked your car or gotten off the bus, begin your hike towards Cachoeira do Arataquara. The trailhead is located at the edge of the village. Follow the well-marked path through the dense vegetation. The trail has some steep sections, so be prepared for a moderate hike. Along the way, you may encounter beautiful flora and fauna native to the Atlantic Forest. Keep an eye out for signs and markers to ensure you stay on the correct path. After approximately 1.5 hours of hiking, you will reach the stunning Cachoeira do Arataquara.
