Discover more about Mount Sage National Park

Mount Sage National Park, established in 1964, protects the highest peak in the British Virgin Islands, rising to 1,716 feet (523 meters). Located on Tortola, the park offers a cool, green escape from the island's beaches. The park spans 96 acres and features semi-rainforest vegetation, a result of moist winds interacting with the mountain. Originally farmland, the area was reforested in 1964 with white cedar, West Indian, and Honduran mahogany trees thanks to a donation from Laurance Rockefeller. Today, a network of trails invites exploration through diverse ecosystems. While the summit itself is densely forested, a short detour on the Joseph R. O'Neal Trail offers views of the Sir Francis Drake Channel and outlying islands. Visitors can explore twelve trails, including the Central Trail (also known as the Rainforest Trail), the North Trail, and the South Trail. Keep an eye out for wildlife like lizards, crabs, and the elusive bananaquit. While hiking, be aware that some parts of the trails can be slippery.
