Discover more about Virgin Gorda Peak

Gorda Peak National Park, rising to 1,370 feet, encompasses the highest point on Virgin Gorda, offering breathtaking 360-degree views of the British Virgin Islands. Donated by Laurance Rockefeller in 1974, the park protects one of the last remaining examples of Caribbean dry forest, making it a crucial conservation area. The park's trails wind through diverse vegetation, from dry scrub forests to moister forests at higher elevations. Keep an eye out for native plant species and the tiny Virgin Gorda gecko, one of the world's smallest lizards. The moderate hike to the summit takes about 25-45 minutes, rewarding you with stunning vistas of the surrounding islands and the sparkling Caribbean Sea. Historically, the peak held significance for the indigenous Arawak and Carib peoples, followed by European settlers. Today, it stands as a testament to Virgin Gorda's natural beauty and a must-visit destination for nature enthusiasts and hikers alike. While the observation tower was damaged by Hurricane Irma in 2017, the panoramic views remain unparalleled.
