Discover more about White Bay

White Bay, situated on the southern coast of Jost Van Dyke, is arguably one of the most beautiful beaches in the British Virgin Islands. This idyllic bay boasts powdery white sands that meet crystal-clear turquoise waters, creating a picturesque scene perfect for relaxation and recreation. The gentle lapping of waves against the shore provides a soothing soundtrack, inviting visitors to unwind and soak up the Caribbean sun. Jost Van Dyke, named after a Dutch privateer, is the smallest of the four main British Virgin Islands. The island has a rich history, having been inhabited by Arawak Indians, Caribs, Dutch, Africans, and English. Today, Jost Van Dyke is known as the "Barefoot Island," where visitors can escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. White Bay is famous for its vibrant beach bar scene. Beach bars line the shore, offering a variety of local delicacies and refreshing cocktails. The Soggy Dollar Bar is perhaps the most iconic, known as the birthplace of the Painkiller cocktail. The bar got its name because, in the past, boaters had to swim ashore to reach it, paying for their drinks with wet money. Beyond lounging and liming, White Bay offers opportunities for water sports such as snorkeling, diving, paddleboarding, and kayaking. The coral reefs just offshore teem with marine life, inviting exploration. For a change of pace, visitors can explore hiking trails or take a boat to nearby Sandy Cay for a quieter beach experience.
