The Jame' Asr Hassanil Bolkiah Mosque, also known as the Kiarong Mosque, stands as a testament to Brunei's Islamic heritage and the grandeur of its architecture. Completed in 1994 to mark the 25th anniversary of Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah's reign, this magnificent mosque is the largest in Brunei and one of its most iconic landmarks. The mosque's design is a blend of Islamic and modern architectural styles, featuring 29 golden domes that represent the 29th Sultan of Brunei. Four minarets, each 58 meters (190 ft) tall, further accentuate the mosque's imposing presence. The interiors are equally impressive, adorned with materials sourced from around the world, including Italian marble, Persian carpets, and Philippine hardwood. The main prayer hall can accommodate up to 3,500 worshippers, while the female prayer hall can hold up to 1,000. The mosque's exterior is complemented by serene gardens with fountains and pools, creating a tranquil atmosphere for visitors. The ablution halls are decorated with white and blue tiles. Inside, visitors can admire the intricate calligraphy, stained glass, and geometric patterns that adorn the walls and domes. The Mihrab (altar) is constructed from black marble and features gold mosaics. Visitors are welcome to explore the mosque outside of prayer times, but modest attire is required. Robes are available for visitors to cover their heads and shoulders. Photography may be restricted inside the mosque.
