Water Village Gallery: A Cultural Gateway in Kampong Ayer

The Water Village Gallery, nestled within the historic Kampong Ayer, serves as an important cultural institution dedicated to preserving and showcasing the artistic expressions and heritage of Brunei's indigenous communities. Kampong Ayer, also known as the 'Venice of the East', is a sprawling stilt village with a rich history dating back over a thousand years. The gallery's exhibits feature a diverse collection of artworks and artifacts that narrate Brunei's history, traditions, and the evolution of its communities. Visitors can explore traditional crafts and contemporary interpretations, all reflecting the deep-rooted connection between the artists and their cultural identity. Opened in 2009, the Kampong Ayer Cultural and Tourism Gallery (KACTG) is modeled after a traditional Malay house and includes an observation tower that provides panoramic views of Kampong Ayer.
