The Jame' Asr Hassanil Bolkiah Mosque, also known as the Kiarong Mosque, is the largest and arguably most magnificent mosque in Brunei. Completed in 1994 to celebrate the 25th year of Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah's reign, its 29 golden domes symbolize his position as the 29th ruler of Brunei. The mosque is one of the two state mosques in Brunei. The mosque's architecture is a blend of Islamic and modern styles, featuring four minarets each standing 58 meters (190 ft) tall. The interiors are equally impressive, with Italian marble, Persian carpets and exquisite chandeliers. The main prayer hall can accommodate up to 3,500 worshipers, while the women's prayer hall can hold 1,000. The mosque also incorporates 24-carat gold-plated tiles and black marble stones in its Mihrab. Visitors can explore the mosque outside of prayer times, but modest dress is required. Robes are provided for those not appropriately dressed. The surrounding gardens offer a tranquil escape, with fountains and beautiful flora. The mosque is particularly stunning at sunset, when the golden domes reflect the light.
