Getting there

Car

If you're traveling by car from Dobruja to Rila Monastery, start by heading southwest on the main road (A2) towards Sofia. Continue until you reach the exit for the E79 road towards Blagoevgrad. Follow the E79 for approximately 80 km until you reach the town of Rila. From Rila, take the road marked towards Rila Monastery, which is about 10 km away. Follow the signs, and you'll arrive at the monastery. Be aware that there may be a small parking fee upon arrival, typically around 5-10 BGN.

Public Transportation

For those opting for public transportation, you can catch a bus from Dobrich to Sofia. From Sofia, transfer to a bus heading to Blagoevgrad. Once in Blagoevgrad, you can find a bus that goes directly to Rila Monastery. The total travel time may take around 4-5 hours including transfers. Make sure to check the bus schedules in advance as they may vary. Once you reach Rila, the monastery is about a 10 km walk or a short taxi ride away. Expect to pay approximately 5-10 BGN for the taxi.
