Balchik Dvoretsa Palace and Park, also known as “The Quiet Nest Palace,” is a stunning architectural and park complex located in Balchik, Bulgaria. Originally constructed between 1926 and 1937, it served as the summer residence for Queen Marie of Romania during the period when the Dobrich Province was part of the Kingdom of Romania. The palace complex is a blend of various architectural styles, including Balkan and Ottoman Turkish influences, with a distinctive minaret alongside a Christian chapel, reflecting Queen Marie's Baháʼí Faith beliefs. The complex features residential villas, a smoking hall, a wine cellar, a power station, a monastery, a holy spring, and other buildings. The surrounding botanical garden, established in 1940, spans 65,000 square meters and houses over 2,000 plant species from 85 families and 200 genera. A highlight is the outdoor collection of large-sized cactus species, the second largest in Europe after Monaco. Visitors can also explore exotic plants, spring and summer flowers, alpine plants and protected species. Today, Balchik Dvoretsa Palace and Park stands as a testament to Queen Marie's vision and love for the region, offering visitors a unique blend of history, architecture, and natural beauty.
