    Getting There

    Driving

    The Rila Monastery is located approximately 120 km south of Sofia. The drive takes about 1.5 to 2 hours, primarily via the A3 Sofia-Kulata highway. From the highway, take the exit to Kocherinovo and follow the signs to the monastery. Parking is available near the main entrance for 5 BGN. Be aware that parking can be limited on weekends.

    Public Transport

    A direct bus from Sofia to Rila Monastery departs once daily from the Ovcha Kupel Bus Station at 10:20 AM, arriving around 1:00 PM. The return bus leaves the monastery at 3:00 PM, arriving back in Sofia around 5:30 PM. A one-way ticket costs 17 BGN. To reach Ovcha Kupel Bus Station, take tram #5 from the back side of the Sofia Court. Alternatively, consider a shuttle service from Sofia city center for approximately 30 EUR.
