Step back in time at the Neofit Rilski House-Museum, a cultural gem nestled in the heart of Bansko. This 18th-century house, also known as the Benina House, was the birthplace of Nikola Poppetrov Benin, who later became known as Neofit Rilski, a prominent figure in the Bulgarian National Revival. He was a monk, teacher, artist, architect, musician, and poet.The museum provides insight into the life and work of Neofit Rilski, the founder of secular education in Bulgaria and the first Bulgarian encyclopedist. The house itself is a fine example of traditional Bansko architecture, featuring a fortified design with thick stone walls and a solid wooden gate, reflecting the region's history.Inside, you'll find a rich collection of artifacts and exhibits that chronicle Rilski's life and contributions. Highlights include the first Bulgarian grammar book from 1835, excerpts from his unfinished Greek-Bulgarian dictionary, and books from his personal library. The museum also showcases ethnographic displays, offering a glimpse into the lifestyle of Bulgarians in the Bansko region during the late Ottoman rule.The house is located next to the Holy Trinity Church. The ground floor features service areas, including a kitchen, storage rooms, and a kneading room. The living room, monastery school, and anteroom are located on the second floor.
