Getting There

• Car

  If you are driving, start your journey in Borovets. Head southeast on the main road (E79) from Borovets towards Samokov. After approximately 10 kilometers, you will see signs for Rila National Park. Follow the signs to the park entrance. Once inside the park, look for the trailhead leading to Връх Ирен-Алекс. There is usually a parking area near the trailhead, but be prepared for a potential parking fee, which can vary depending on the season.

• Public Transportation

  For those relying on public transportation, begin at the Borovets bus station. Take a local bus towards Samokov. It’s advisable to check the current bus schedules in advance, as they may vary. After reaching Samokov, you will need to transfer to a bus heading to Rila Monastery. Inform the driver that you need to get off at the Rila Park entrance. From the entrance, it is a short walk to the trailhead for Връх Ирен-Алекс. Note that there may be a small fee for entering the National Park area.

• Hiking

  Once you arrive at the trailhead, the hike to Връх Ирен-Алекс typically takes about 2-3 hours, depending on your fitness level. The path is well-marked, but be prepared for some steep sections. Make sure to carry enough water and snacks for the hike, and wear sturdy hiking shoes. As you ascend, enjoy the stunning views of the surrounding mountains. Follow the markers, and you'll reach the summit where you can take in breathtaking panoramic views.
