Car
If you are traveling by car, you can reach Fish Lake by taking the road from Borovets or Rila Monastery. From Borovets, head southwest on the main road towards Samokov. After about 15 km, turn left towards the Rila Monastery. Continue on this road for approximately 20 km until you reach the Rila Monastery area. From here, follow the signs for the hiking trails leading to Fish Lake. Note that parking is available near the starting point of the hike, but there may be a small fee (around 5-10 BGN) for using the parking area. The hiking trail to Fish Lake is about 3-4 hours long, depending on your pace.
Public Transportation
To reach Fish Lake using public transportation, you can take a bus from Sofia to Samokov. Buses leave regularly from the central bus station in Sofia. The journey takes about 1.5 hours and costs around 8-10 BGN. Once in Samokov, you will need to take another bus towards Rila Monastery, which should take about 30 minutes. Once you arrive at Rila Monastery, follow the signs to the hiking trails leading to Fish Lake. Similar to traveling by car, the hike will take you approximately 3-4 hours to reach the lake.
Hiking
If you are already in the Rila Mountains and want to hike to Fish Lake, you can find several trails that connect to the main path leading to the lake. One common route starts at the Seven Rila Lakes hut, which is accessible via various hiking trails from nearby locations. From the hut, follow the marked path towards Fish Lake, which will take approximately 1-2 hours of hiking. Ensure you have proper hiking gear and supplies, as the trails can be steep and challenging.
