Only about 10% of the vast collection is on permanent display, ensuring a rotating selection of fascinating exhibits. The museum's collection spans millennia, encompassing prehistoric relics, Thracian treasures, and artifacts from the First and Second Bulgarian Empires. Key highlights include world-renowned treasures such as the Panagyurishte gold Treasure, the Rogozen Treasure, and burial gifts discovered in ancient mounds. Visitors can explore exhibits dedicated to prehistory, ancient Thrace, the Middle Ages, the Ottoman Dominion, and the Third Bulgarian Empire. The museum building itself, while not originally designed as a museum, boasts majestic halls, enormous wood-carved doors, and striking light structures.
