The Regional History Museum is located in the heart of Sofia on Banski Square, easily accessible on foot from many central landmarks. From Vitosha Boulevard, walk east towards the Presidency and the National Bank. Continue past the Archaeological Museum; the Regional History Museum will be on your left, housed in the large, ornate building of the former Central Mineral Baths.

Established in 1928 and opened in 2015 in its current location, the museum showcases over 120,000 artifacts, some dating back to the Neolithic Age.The museum's exhibits trace Sofia's development through various periods, including ancient civilizations, the Byzantine and Ottoman eras, and Bulgaria's emergence as an independent nation. Highlights include the carriage of Bulgarian King Ferdinand and the Vitosha gold-sealed deed of Tsar Ivan Shishman from 1378. Visitors can also explore recreations of a Neolithic home from six millennia BC.Beyond its historical collections, the museum hosts temporary exhibitions, workshops, and cultural events throughout the year. The building itself is an architectural gem, featuring stunning details like domed ceilings and mosaic floors. The museum also has a specialized scientific library containing approximately 12,000 items, including a manuscript from 1820 and a printed book from 1714.
