Discover more about Vrana Park & Museum

Vrana Park, located on the outskirts of Sofia, is a former royal estate that provides a tranquil retreat from the city's hustle. Established in 1899, it served as the intimate family residence for Bulgarian monarchs, starting with Tsar Ferdinand I. The park showcases a diverse collection of plant species from around the world, with over 800 different kinds of trees, shrubs and grasses. The park's landscape was influenced by European landscape design, featuring woodlands, meadows, rock gardens, and lakes. During the monarchy, Vrana also housed a zoo with exotic animals like reindeer, llamas, camels, and even elephants. Today, visitors can explore the grounds, admire the water lilies on the lake, and stroll along the walking paths. After the abolition of the monarchy, Vrana was nationalized and later returned to Tsar Simeon II, who donated part of the area to the Sofia Municipality. Opened to the public in 2013, Vrana Park allows visitors to experience a piece of Bulgaria's royal history and appreciate its natural beauty. The park also offers free guided tours that provide insights into the park's history, flora, and royal connections.
