If you're traveling by car, start by navigating to the town of Gabrovo, which is a central hub in Stara Planina. From Gabrovo, take the road heading towards the village of Bozhentsi. Follow the signs to the National Park 'Central Balkan' and continue until you reach the fork in the road near the village of Apriltsi. Take the left turn and continue driving until you reach a parking area near Rai Hut (GPS Coordinates: 42.6963687, 24.9310574). From the parking area, it is a short hike of approximately 15-20 minutes to reach the hut. Please note that parking may incur a small fee, typically around 5-10 BGN per day.
Public Transportation
To reach Rai Hut using public transportation, first take a bus from your current location in Stara Planina to Gabrovo. The buses are frequent and the journey usually takes about 1 hour. Once in Gabrovo, you can catch a bus to Apriltsi. This leg of the trip may take around 30 minutes. After arriving in Apriltsi, you can either walk towards the hut (approximately a 1-hour hike) or arrange for a local taxi to take you directly to the parking area near Rai Hut. Be sure to confirm taxi rates beforehand, which typically range from 10-20 BGN.
