Discover more about Pantheon

The Pantheon, officially known as the Monument of the Strugglers Against Fascism and Capitalism, stands as a solemn tribute to the fallen heroes of Varna and the surrounding region who perished in the struggle against fascism from 1923 to 1944. Inaugurated on November 6, 1959, the monument is located within Varna's Sea Garden (Primorski Park), the city's largest, oldest, and most renowned public park. The Pantheon's history began in 1945 with a common grave constructed on Turna Tepe hill to honor those who fought against fascism and capitalism. A decade later, it was decided to move the remains to a new monument located on the site of a former Catholic cemetery and a memorial to French soldiers who died during the Crimean War. The monument features a powerful central sculpture depicting two warriors, one wounded and the other continuing the fight. The words “eternal glory” are engraved at the entrance. Seven stone reliefs at the base of the monument depict scenes of the struggle against fascism. Although the remains were removed and given to relatives in 1995, the Pantheon remains a historical monument, recognized in Issue 43 of the State Gazette in 1971. Today, the Pantheon offers a tranquil space for visitors to remember the past. It is set within the picturesque Sea Garden, which offers walking paths, gardens, and views of the Black Sea.
