Discover more about Sea Garden

Varna's Sea Garden, or Primorski Park, is a sprawling green space and a national monument of landscape architecture, gracing the city's coastline along the Black Sea. Often called the largest landscaped park in the Balkans, it provides a refreshing escape from the urban bustle. Initially, the area was a bare field outside the city limits until 1862 when a small garden was arranged by the Ottoman mayor. After Bulgaria's liberation in 1878, mayor Mihail Koloni proposed a proper city garden and seaside park. The garden was expanded according to the plans of French engineer Martinice. The park's modern appearance is largely attributed to Czech gardener Anton Novák, who began working on it in 1895. In 1939, the central entrance was redesigned by architect Georgi Popov, featuring a wide plaza and tall columns. Today, the Sea Garden is home to a variety of attractions, including the Varna Aquarium, the Naval Museum, the Copernicus Astronomy Complex Planetarium, and the Varna Zoo. Visitors can also find an open-air theater, tennis courts, swimming pools, and children's amusement areas. The park's promenade offers stunning sea views and is lined with cafes and restaurants. Throughout the year, the Sea Garden hosts various cultural events and festivals, adding to its appeal.
