Car
If you are driving from the center of Makamba, head north on Avenue de la Réunification towards Avenue des Martyrs. Continue straight for approximately 2 kilometers until you reach the junction with Route Nationale 1 (RN1). Turn left onto RN1 and follow the road for about 30 kilometers. You will pass through several small towns, so be cautious of pedestrians and animals on the road. After about 30 minutes, keep an eye out for the signs leading to Bujumbura. As you approach Bujumbura, look for a sign that indicates H9J7+R3P. Turn right and follow the road signs to the hiking area in Mayuyu. Parking is available nearby.
Public Transportation (Bus)
To reach Mayuyu using public transportation, start at the main bus station in Makamba. Look for buses heading to Bujumbura, which depart frequently throughout the day. The fare is typically around 2,000 BIF. The journey takes about 1.5 to 2 hours depending on traffic. Once you arrive in Bujumbura, get off at the central bus station. From there, you can take a moto-taxi (motorcycle taxi) to reach H9J7+R3P. The fare for the moto-taxi should be around 3,000 BIF. Inform the driver of your destination, and they will get you there safely.
Moto-Taxi
If you are already in Bujumbura, you can opt for a moto-taxi directly from your location to Mayuyu. Simply flag down a nearby moto-taxi or use a ride-hailing app if available. Make sure to negotiate the fare beforehand, which should typically be around 3,000 BIF. Ensure the driver knows the exact location of H9J7+R3P, and enjoy the ride as you navigate through the scenic roads. The journey should take about 20-30 minutes depending on traffic.
