Local know-how to help you travel smarter and make the most of every moment.
Car
Start your journey from Makamba city center. Head north on Avenue du 1er Novembre towards Avenue de la Réunification. Continue on this road for about 20 kilometers until you reach the fork in the road. Take the left fork to stay on the main road (N3) heading towards Gikizi. After approximately 10 more kilometers, look for signs indicating Musenyi. Turn onto the road leading towards Musenyi and continue for another 5 kilometers until you reach the coordinates 3RMQ+X58. The Südlichste Nilquelle/Burkhard-Waldecker-Pyramide will be on your right. Ensure your vehicle has enough fuel as gas stations may be limited in this area.
Public Transportation
From Makamba, you can take a local bus or shared taxi heading towards Gikizi. These usually depart from the main bus station in Makamba. Make sure to inform the driver that you are going to Musenyi, as they may have different stops along the route. The journey will take approximately 1-1.5 hours. Once you arrive at Musenyi, you may need to walk or hire a motorcycle taxi (known as 'moto-taxi') to reach the coordinates 3RMQ+X58. The cost for the motorcycle taxi should be negotiated beforehand, but it generally ranges from 1,000 to 3,000 BIF depending on the distance.
Walking
If you are staying in Musenyi or nearby, you can walk to the pyramid. Depending on your location, head towards the main road that leads to the coordinates 3RMQ+X58. The pyramid is located about 1-2 kilometers from the center of Musenyi, and the walking path is relatively straightforward. Just follow the signs or ask locals for directions to ensure you stay on the right path.
