    Discover more about Alamo Square

Alamo Square, a 12.7-acre park in San Francisco's Western Addition, provides a quintessential San Francisco experience. The park is most famous for its views of the 'Painted Ladies,' a row of vibrantly colored Victorian homes on Steiner Street, set against the backdrop of the city skyline. These homes, also known as the 'Seven Sisters,' are a symbol of San Francisco and are among the most photographed residences in the United States. Originally, the area was a watering hole along the trail from Mission Dolores to the Presidio in the early 1800s. In 1856, Mayor James Van Ness designated the area as Alamo Square. The Alamo Square Historic District, created in 1984, represents a continuum of residential architecture from the 1870s to the 1920s. The park and its surrounding neighborhood have been featured in numerous movies, television shows, and commercials, most notably in the opening credits of the sitcom 'Full House'. Today, Alamo Square offers more than just a pretty view. Visitors can enjoy walking trails, a tennis court, a playground, and an off-leash dog play area. The park is open from 5 AM to midnight daily. The Alamo Square Neighborhood Association is actively involved in preserving and improving the park and the surrounding neighborhood.
