From Big Sur, head to the nearest bus stop on Highway 1. You can take the Monterey-Salinas Transit (MST) Bus Route 22 towards Monterey. The bus ride will take approximately 40-50 minutes. Get off at the stop nearest to the downtown Monterey area, then walk towards Church Street. San Carlos Cathedral is located at 500 Church St, which is about a 10-minute walk from the bus stop. Follow the signs towards the city center, and you will find the cathedral on your right.
Bicycle
If you prefer cycling, rent a bike from one of the local rental shops in Big Sur. Take Highway 1 north towards Monterey. The ride is approximately 25 miles and will take around 2-3 hours, depending on your pace. Once you arrive in Monterey, look for Church Street. San Carlos Cathedral is located at 500 Church St. Make sure to follow the bike paths and lanes for safety, and enjoy the scenic views along the way.
Walking
For those adventurous enough to walk, start your journey by heading north on Highway 1 towards Monterey.
