Getting There

• Walking from Big Sur Station

  Start at Big Sur Station, located at 46840 CA-1, Big Sur, CA 93920. Head south on CA-1 for about 0.5 miles until you reach the entrance to Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park on your left. Continue along the main road leading into the park. Once inside, look for the signs directing you to the Big Sur River Gorge trails. Follow the trail markers to navigate through the park's lush surroundings. The hike to the gorge will take approximately 30-45 minutes, depending on your pace. Keep an eye out for beautiful scenery and wildlife along the way.

• Hiking from Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park

  If you are already at Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park, begin your hike from the park entrance. Follow the signs for the River Trail, which is well-marked. The trail will take you through gorgeous redwoods and along the river. After about 1.5 miles of hiking, you will arrive at the Big Sur River Gorge. This trail can be steep in some areas, so wear sturdy shoes and be prepared for a bit of a workout. The gorge offers a beautiful spot for relaxation and photography.

• Biking from Big Sur Campground

  If you are staying at Big Sur Campground, you can bike to Big Sur River Gorge. Start by exiting the campground and heading west on the main road. Turn left onto the trail that leads into Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park. Continue biking along the designated paths until you reach the Big Sur River Gorge. The ride is approximately 2 miles and offers beautiful views of the surrounding nature. Remember to keep a safe speed and watch for pedestrians along the trail.
