Presidio Park: San Diego's Birthplace

Presidio Park, perched on a hill overlooking Old Town San Diego, is a site of immense historical significance as the location of California's first European settlement. In 1769, Spanish Franciscan missionary Father Junípero Serra and Gaspar de Portolá established the San Diego Presidio and Mission here. While the original mission relocated, the park remains a tribute to this pivotal moment in California's history.The park's 40 acres offer a blend of history and recreation. Designed by William Templeton Johnson and funded by George Marston, the museum houses artifacts and exhibits related to the Spanish colonization and early history of California. Marston, a prominent civic leader, donated the park to the city in 1929.Today, Presidio Park is a popular destination for locals and tourists alike.
